Growing Up In Dudley - Jack The Pig
“I Lived in the coal yard at the top of Bath Hill, now the B & B for the Lamp Tavern. There was Mom, Dad, 6 Brothers and 3 sisters who all lived there. My Dad, James ran the coal business until the lads were old enough to drive the lorries and start doing deliveries.
One day when I was making a delivery to a farm in Gornal, the farmer had a piglet in his arms. Story is the sow had had 13 piglets but could only feed 12 so one had to go. After a conversation the piglet was in a box and took home. Where he became a member of our family. Living in the house with us.
All the kids loved ‘Jack’ and the girls used to put him on a lead to take him for walks.
Poor Jack just disappeared one day while they were out the house!”
