Rachel Massey
Rachel Massey is a Black Country based mixed media artist and illustrator. Her art practice primarily explores ideas of industrialisation, deterioration and research into the theories of the sublime.
Her work’s main focus is on old, broken and defunct technology, transport, architecture and the landscapes in which it is found.
Rachel is inquisitive in how this subject matter is presented and seen in everyday life and how it blends both aesthetically and subconsciously into the banal and familiar Dudley landscape.
Her pieces tend to be mixed media on paper; A combination of ink, watercolour, image transfer and digital/paper-based collage.
Rachel also experiments with producing digital glitch art using similar Dudley subject matter and aesthetic inspiration, often using many processes and layers within her work to reflect both the depth of the subject and the qualities of the various mediums used in each piece.
Her most recent work is representative of her own everyday interactions with locations within the West Midlands and Dudley area and appreciation of its industrial, commercial and technological history.
